Riot police quell protest
Riot police officers have fought running battles with protesting residents of Lusaka's Gadern Compound.A check by a ZNBC news crew found a combined team of police officers and fire brigade staff putting off fires which were set on several portions of Katimamulilo road.
Lusaka Division Police Commanding Officer, Wazakaza Ng'uni led his officers in dispersing the violent residents.
Police officers fired a number of tear gas carnisters as the protestors hit back with stones and any material they could lay their hands on.
Some residents claimed that the riot was sparked off by a mob of political cadres who were protesting results of the September 28 elections.
There is a heavy presence of armed paramilitary police officers along Katimamulilo raod.
The Red Cross Society of Zambia has also deplored its staff in the area.
